Searching WorldCat.

To access WorldCat enter your logon id and password as described in the Course Navigation web pages.

Enter the following words in the box titled Search for:children of Holocaust survivors

Notice that the radio button next to keyword is filled in. This is the default. If you had a title or author you were searching for, you would select one of those options.

Click on the Search button.

The total number of records found is listed in the gray box at the top of the screen. Note the huge number.

There are far too many to review all, but look through a few.

Notice that you are only seeing a small amount of information about each title. Clickon any title you find interesting to get the full record describing the item.

Now let's do an advanced search. This search mode gives you the ability tofurther define and limit your search statement.

In the blue column select Searching.

Again in the blue column select Advanced under the heading Searching.

If your previous search terms appear, delete them.

Locate the first row of boxes. Next to Search for, enter children of holocaust survivors.

Click on the downward pointing arrow. A list will appear.

Select Descriptor Phrase.

Next, in the second row of boxes enter psychology, and in the box to the right select Descriptor.

Locate the Limit options in the yellow box.

We are going to limit by document type and language.

Click on the down arrow for document type, and select Books.

Click on the down arrow for language, and select English.

Click on the Search button.

Now review your results.

Use the Subjects icon on the top of the screen to locate Library of Congress Subject Headings related to your topic.

Also, review the Help files, represented by a question mark at the top of the screen. The Help filesprovide extensive information that will help you search effectively.
