How do you put all of these factors together and write an evaluation? Let's give it a try:

Aaron Hass' book, In the Shadow of the Holocaust: The Second Generation, is one of two books the author has written on the Holocaust. Hass has studied the Holocaust extensively and is a well known lecturer with excellent credentials: he is a clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA Medical School and a professor of psychology at California State University. In addition to his two books, Hass also serves as an editor of a scholarly journal, entitled Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Published in 1990 by Cornell University Press, a well known and established publisher, the book chronicles years of research by Hass in which he had the opportunity to interview, observe and treat actual survivors of the Holocaust. This very personal involvement enabled him to provide a detailed account of the psychological ramifications of surviving such a terrible ordeal.

Library Journal, a well known and respected journal for librarians, says that the book was "important" and "recommended for most large libraries" (Kaplan 90).

Hass' credentials and clinical expertise, the quality of the publisher and the book review all support the contention that the book looks like a valuable source for your paper and, since it is free from academic jargon, relatively easy reading.

For Assignment 4 you will be evaluating the book America and the Survivors of the Holocaust by Leonard Dinnerstein Professor Emeritus, University of Arizona Center for Judaic Studies.
