Here is another consideration. When you begin to search, what do you use as your access point? Let's say that you are a gardener and you are having trouble with deer. You decide to look for an article on ways to keep deer away. So you decide to look in a database of magazine articles. Which field will you search? Let's say you decide to search the title field. Look at the following record:

This article is exactly what you wanted! But you would not have found it by doing a title search. The word "deer" is not present in the title field, so the computer would not select it. The word "deer" is in the subject field. Other subject headings include: wildlife repellents; wildlife in gardens; and garden pests.
